Dr. Milton L. Ramirez

Who is the man behind this website? He is known as Milton Ramirez or as many of you know him as @tonnet. Milton's sole purpose is to help educators, teachers and all members of society think of education differently. Not only as a subject of the human knowledge that can help everyone learn something important but rather as an intellectual source. Also, that education not only can make you rich spiritually and emotionally but economically as well. Dr. Ramirez believes that theory is vital to pedagogy but the practice is what makes it worth every last penny.

Milton is an Ecuadorian American. He lives in the tri-state area, Elizabeth City, in New Jersey. TonNet studied in his homeland until he was in his thirties, then moved to the Big Apple and had to commute daily to New Jersey. He was born in Loja, this South American city is "The last corner of the world and at the same time the most beautiful place in the universe" as recognized Ecuadorian writer, Benjamin Carrion has stated on one of his books.

As for some is already known, tonnet is my Internet persona and has been a fixture on the Internet for numerous years (since 2003). That was the year when his first Spanish Readers Blog started, which in turn will morphe into Education & Tech. Then, I hosted it on other platform and today our Spanish U.S./Ecuador bridge blog survives in here. It was the 2006 Christmas Eve that we posted our very first article in English, process solely to be announced officially on January 1st, 2007.

It took me a lot of energy and work to switch from my native language to another which I was acquiring in my late 30's.

Even when our first language is Spanish, we have improved our English and feel proud of the accent showing we have another culture rather than the Anglo-Saxon only. The new language has done a lot more than that, it has connected me with people from all over the world. Most importantly, thanks to Education & Tech for Teachers we have been able to build the most respectable Personal Learning Network in Education, we had the opportunity to start writing for the most important international network of bloggers and citizen journalists, the Global Voices Network.

We've served as an associate editor on the prestigious technology blog network, geeksroom.com. Associate Editor for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and I hold an op-ed column in Spanish for the Latino Street Newspaper. Our blogger work has been syndicated by many recognized media networks.

This language acquisition transition has allowed me to do some freelance translations and a good deal of our work can be found at one of the largest volunteer-based online translation communities in the world, the Project Lingua, and the   Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Milton L. Ramirez holds a doctoral degree in Education with an emphasis on Curriculum Design, and an MBA. He's spent over ten years as a teacher in the high school and university level and in more than one city in Ecuador. He has worked as a Math and Spanish teacher in the U.S. All this combines with his strong inclination for STEM and second language research in both educational and scientific areas to uncover important implications for teaching and learning. His professional life spins around education but he has also done corporate business, with positions such as a sales manager, managing production, and quality control supervision.

A Fair Warning

Milton, Milt, TonNet, or Mr. R as many of his pupils like to call him, is a penchant of a wide range of topics among them politics, but this is something to be discussed only in a face to face manner. He likes the philately, reads, and writes to a great extent and his son thinks of his father as to be living with a 'nerd'. TonNet --his Internet persona, remember? can look himself smart and dedicated, yet he is so silly from the heartfelt of his actions. Tonnet provides his wife, a 13 years old boy and a 21 step-daughter.

Thanks for your interest.
